People are still perishing because of a lack of knowledge and the population who suffers most is children. There are underlying reasons why children sell and/or use drugs, prostitute their bodies and burglarize their own communities. According to the Los Angeles Times (April 2003), The nation's inmate population swelled to more than 2 million for the first time last year.

The grassroots group Critical Resistance South released a report saying the country's prison population has quadrupled to 2.1 million since 1981. The South accounts for 45 percent of that increase, according to the report generated for the group by the Justice Policy Institute in Washington D.C. Early interventions, mentorship and adequate support can help break the spell of the wounded, crippled, mentally challenged unproductive adults in our society.
